School’s in and there’s a new Music teacher who is out to challenge the minds of students like never before. Yes, it’s a different approach but if it’s all about Music, why does it feel like History and English? Or would that be Maths and Science?

High and low, loud and soft. Class time is fun – it’s where indoor learning meets outdoor learning. City, country – and why animals? This is music. Or is it noise? Kitchens to bathrooms; laundries to dining rooms; bedrooms to playrooms. Then there’s the backyard. It’s a world of exploring when they realise that sounds are everywhere – it’s where everyday sounds become everyday music.

And there’s homework. Could it be that home is the centre of learning? Pitch, dynamics, and timbre: research now takes on a new dimension. School has musical instruments, of course, but maybe it’s best to create their own? Making and composing reach new levels – it’s all about creativity and imagination. And when it comes to their own creations, it’s all up for grabs – whatever they can find.

It’s time to explore the environment because there’s something called “found sounds”.

This is radical, mind-blowing music making and composing at its best. It’s ironical that what seems to have been so perplexing turns out to be an awesome five weeks of revelations; they just need ears, eyes, and an open mind. In fact it seems that there’s no end of ideas for these seventeen fun-loving characters – the sky’s the limit!
